We tested Smart on 634,000 whale bets
Big money is not smart money: copying every whale lost about 5% after fees. What held up: Smart whales — they buy cheaper than the market closes — when they bet in the last 2 hours before kick-off.

How we tested
Every trade on every settled sports market on Polymarket over 90 days (Aug 1 – Oct 30, 2026), rebuilt into 634,000 whale positions: a wallet's pre-game bet of $300 or more.
For each bet we used only what was known at that moment — the wallet's record on games that had already finished. The last three weeks were kept aside and used only for the check.
Entry at the whale's first price plus 1¢, Polymarket's taker fee included — what you would really get copying the bet.
Size and past profit predict nothing. Wallets that consistently buy below the closing line (Smart) are the only lead — and almost all of their edge is in bets placed in the last 2 hours before kick-off. In football even that does not work.
The 2-hour window was found on 30 Oct looking at all three months, so it is not a blind test. Since 30 Oct we track it on new bets only and will publish the result either way.
